FAQs

1. What is Guided Self-Mentorship?

A: Guided Self-Mentorship is a structured, brief, and practical approach to understanding your mind and emotions. It equips you with tools to navigate life's challenges and build a fulfilling life. Unlike traditional therapy, it focuses on empowering you to become your own mentor without prolonged analysis or diagnoses.

2. How does Guided Self-Mentorship differ from therapy?

A: While therapy often involves diagnosis and long-term analysis, Guided Self-Mentorship is action-oriented and time-limited. It’s not focused on labeling or finding illness, and instead on understanding what’s going on and working towards wellness. It provides you with immediate tools and insights to address your current challenges, and with guidance, emphasizes your ability to find the way forward that works best for your individual circumstances.

3. Is Guided Self-Mentorship similar to life coaching?

A: Not exactly. Life coaching typically focuses on achieving specific external goals. Guided Self-Mentorship, on the other hand, delves deeper into understanding and transforming internal patterns, helping you navigate life's complexities with trust that you have the tools to know how to handle them.

4. Who can benefit from Guided Self-Mentorship?

A: This approach is ideal for individuals experiencing:
Procrastination & Perfectionism (fear of failure, difficulty starting)
Overthinking & Analysis Paralysis (stuck in decision loops, overwhelmed by choices)
Anxiety & Dread (feeling on edge, difficulty relaxing, constant worry)
Self-Criticism & Inner Conflict (harsh inner voice, negative self-talk)
Low Self-Esteem & Self-Doubt (feeling not good enough, fear of being judged)
Feeling Stuck & Unfulfilled (lack of motivation, uncertainty about life direction)
Technology Addiction & Endless Scrolling (struggling with social media overuse)
Habitual Substance Use (using alcohol, food, or other habits as coping mechanisms)
Trouble Focusing & Constant Distraction (difficulty staying productive, ADHD-like symptoms)
Relationship Communication & Conflict (improving how you express yourself, reducing tension)

If your specific challenge isn't listed here, don't worry! Self-Mentorship is a flexible, customizable approach that can be applied to most struggles. Feel free to reach out if you’re unsure if it’s right for you.

5. What can I expect in a Guided Self-Mentorship session?

A: Each session provides practical tools and insights tailored to your unique situation. You’ll learn how to manage your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors in a way that fosters personal growth and resilience.

6. How many sessions will I need?

A: Guided Self-Mentorship is structured as two 2-hour sessions designed to equip you with the tools and strategies you need. These sessions are comprehensive and structured to maximize learning and self-discovery without requiring a long-term commitment. Learn more about the process on the How It Works page.

7. Do I need therapy, or is there another option? Can this help with anxiety, trauma, or depression?

A: Therapy is designed to treat diagnosed mental health conditions such as generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, major depressive disorder, or PTSD. However, if you're struggling with stress, anxiety, panic attacks, self-doubt, overthinking, trauma, habits or addictions to things like overuse of alcohol or spending too much time on screens, or feeling stuck in life, those can all be part of the human experience without being an illness.

For that reason, while Guided Self-Mentorship is not designed to treat illness, many people report significant relief from all of the above. It provides structured, therapist-informed tools to help manage emotions, build resilience, and improve overall well-being.

8. Can I work on my mental health without seeing a therapist?

A: Yes, you can work on your mental well-being without traditional therapy. I am a licensed therapist, but I no longer provide therapy. Guided Self-Mentorship is not therapy or self-help—it's a structured, therapist-informed process that helps you develop self-awareness, manage emotions, and navigate challenges in life.

This approach is designed for people who want practical guidance without a clinical diagnosis or long-term therapy commitment.

It won’t try to help you, fix you, or make you happier. It’s kind of an un-therapy in that way! It will, however, help you develop the ability to help yourself. In that, many people find a persistent happiness.

More details on this approach can be found on the How It Works page.

9. What should I do if therapy isn’t helping?

A: If you’ve tried therapy but feel like you’re not making progress, you’re not alone. Therapy is a great tool for many people, but it doesn’t always provide the actionable, skills-based tools some people need.

If you’re feeling stuck, Guided Self-Mentorship might offer a new approach. It focuses on self-reflection, practical problem-solving, and real-world strategies to help you make changes in your life. Many people use self-mentorship alongside therapy, while others use it as a stand-alone method for growth.
