How it Works
Most people are handed a set of ideas about how life should be—what success looks like, what happiness means, how to ‘fix’ themselves and live a good life. But what if the answers you’ve been given aren’t the solutions you’ve hoped for?
Guided Self-Mentorship isn’t about following someone else’s blueprint. It’s about uncovering your own. This process is a daily practice designed to immediately tone down the noise, see yourself clearly, and finally trust your own guidance—to find your own way.
And here’s the paradox: It’s simple, and at the same time, not easy. Many of my clients are shocked (and, honestly, sometimes a little frustrated) when they realize just how simple it really is. The path forward has been here all along—it simply asks you to question all of the familiar ways you think you should be living in order to finally live the way you know you would like to. No big deal, right? Just a complete restructuring of your entire way of being.
The Process
-
You’ll receive a short introduction to Guided Self-Mentorship with a few questions. Nothing overwhelming—just enough to help us both understand what, if anything, you’re wanting help with. You’ll also do a quick check-in to rate how you’re feeling. We’ll take these before-and-after measurements in each session, not just to track progress, but to make sure what we’re doing is actually useful to you.
And here’s something weird—unlike traditional therapy, if things aren’t working, it’s probably because I’m missing the mark and I’m actually accountable. This process is meant to be effective, and if it’s not clicking, I want to know so we can adjust. That said, this only works if you’re doing what’s required. If you’re skipping the between-session practice, not applying what we cover, or not giving feedback, this method will never work! If you’re putting in the effort and something still isn’t landing, though? That’s my cue to adjust, and the great news is, we can. You deserve something that actually helps, not just another thing to check off your “I tried” list.
-
The first hour is all about deeply understanding the root of what’s bothering you. I truly believe you have the answers. You’re the expert on your own experience, and my job is to bring warmth, understanding, and curiosity to help that wisdom rise to the surface. Through thoughtful and intentional questions, you’ll be teaching us both about what’s really going on (honestly, my clients teach me just as much as I teach them). This is a process of discovery and understanding—making sure we’re focused on what actually matters to you at the core before we start taking action.
In the second hour, you’ll learn practical tools and perspectives that you can start using immediately. These aren’t vague concepts or abstract ideas—they’re concrete ways to help you understand your patterns, make decisions with confidence, and stop running in mental circles. You’ll walk away with real strategies that actually make sense for your life.
-
Knowing comes from being told. Truly understanding comes from doing. That’s why you’ll get a 7-Day Path—a daily exercise designed to take a challenging moment and turn it into a step toward a life you’ll love. You’ll be practicing real, tangible ways to make your life better as things happen, giving you the confidence that you can use these skills on your own.
Think about learning to drive. If all you ever did was read the manual, watch a few videos, and hear people explain it to you, how confident would you feel behind the wheel? You might know what to do, but would you trust yourself to do it?The 7-Day Path puts you in the driver’s seat—not just so you can learn, but so you can experience what it feels like to actually steer your life in a new direction. This is where the real work happens. This is where the magic is.
-
The second session follows the same structure, but this time, we’ll focus on something completely different—so you can see for yourself just how adaptable these tools are. You’ll also check in on how things went between sessions, fine-tune what’s working, and adjust anything that isn’t.
By the end of this session, you won’t just have a set of tools—you’ll have firsthand experience applying them across different challenges. The goal isn’t just for you to “get it”—it’s for you to trust yourself to use it. This is where confidence is built. This is where you realize that you don’t need ongoing guidance—because you already have what you need.
-
Guided Self-Mentorship is designed to be the last kind of guidance you’ll ever need. You’ll have the tools to mentor yourself, to guide your own way, and to trust that you don’t need someone else’s answers—you can find your own. The goal isn’t to achieve some mythical, problem-free life. It’s to know, deep down, that no matter what happens, you have the ability to navigate it well.
But let’s be real, everyone gets stuck sometimes (myself included). That’s not failure—it’s just life. And when that happens, you’re always welcome to return for a one-hour quick session anytime you need a little clarity, a refresher, or just some support in applying what you’ve learned. Self-trust doesn’t mean you never need help—it just means you get to decide when and how to ask for it.
If you graduate and I hear from you again, I’ll be happy to see and learn together again. Strangely, if you graduate and I don’t hear from you again, I’ll also be happy knowing that you’re doing well.
How and why was it developed?
I struggled for a long time. Not just a little bit. A lot. I was suffering. I know what it’s like to be stuck, to search for answers, to feel like relief is always just out of reach. After years of therapy and going to school to be a therapist myself, I finally started finding the things that actually helped. And frustratingly I realized something—getting unstuck doesn’t take forever. In fact, it happens in a single moment, and the relief is cathartic. That moment gets repeated over time and becomes an upward spiral with life becoming more and more full.
Fast forward to my practice where I would watch many others realize the same thing, even after many years of struggle.
I wanted to create the tool that my clients and I needed and didn’t have when we were struggling—something that could help people find real relief and real change as quickly as possible.
Guided Self-Mentorship was Born
Guided Self-Mentorship is a long-distance collaboration between me and some of the people who helped me find my own recovery. It stands on the shoulders of brilliant thinkers and practical wisdom, blending their insights with my own experience in recovery and the >10,000 hours I’ve spent listening carefully to my clients.
It’s deeply influenced by:
TEAM Therapy and the work of David Burns, who pioneered the use of measurement to ensure that help is actually helping—not just assumed to be. Also in reinforcing something crucial: the beauty in people’s toughest feelings and the damn good reasons not to change them.
Viktor Frankl whose work showed that even in the most desperate situations, you can live with purpose—and that the skills to handle life’s toughest challenges can be learned, no matter how restrictive life gets.
The Work of Byron Katie, which reveals how self-trust and understanding bring relief from suffering.
And the countless lessons learned from my clients—their struggles, their breakthroughs, their moments of profound clarity. Each of them, in some way, has contributed to this work. To any of you reading this - thank you, I cherish our time together deeply, and know that your efforts are being passed forward.
Guided Self-Mentorship is the result of these influences, combined with a relentless focus on what actually works while ditching all of the fluff that doesn’t. To be frank, life is too precious to spend so much time trying to figure out what works. While this practice is effortful, this makes it clear so that you know your efforts are effective.
What You’ll Walk Away With
By the end of this process, you won’t just feel different—you’ll live different. You’ll have:
A clear understanding of why you’ve felt stuck—and what to do about it if it happens again.
A way to shift self-doubt and self-criticism into clarity and confidence.
The tools to navigate challenges without being stuck spiraling or feeling lost eternally.
A sense of deep trust in yourself and your ability to live a life you appreciate.
And maybe most importantly—you won’t walk away feeling like you’ve become someone new. You’ll walk away finally recognizing and appreciating the person you’ve been all along.
